GUIDELINES FOR OBTAINING A MARRIAGE LICENSE

In the greater Chicago area, the legal age for marriage is 18 years old.  In general, there are no blood test or health test requirements to obtain a legal license.  Both parties must be present to apply for a license, which requires proper forms of identification, such as a valid United States driver's license, passport, or a certified birth record (date of birth must be on the documentation).

In most cases, if either the bride(s) or groom(s) has been previously married, she or he must know the dates of divorce or death and present a copy of the divorce degree(s) or certificate(s) of dissolution if either event occurred within the last six months.

A marriage license can be obtained the same day and is valid for 60 days (beginning the day after it is issued, and ONLY in that particular county).  YOU MUST OBTAIN YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE IN THE COUNTY IN WHICH YOU WILL BE MARRIED (not the county which you reside).  The fee in Lake County, IL is $35, and method of payment is cash or money order.  Offices are open Monday thru Friday.
